More than 50 distinguished guests from key enterprises of the construction, power and technology field attended the seminar.
In the face of climate change and the latest technology trends, the adoption of renewable energy to improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon footprint, and be able to adopt smart technologies to enhance people’s quality of life has been a major global issue.
Riding on the success of the 2018 seminar in Dongguan, Hong Kong Energy Infrastructure (HEI), Kumshing’s investment, consulting and technology application arm, co-organized another successful 1-day seminar with Guangdong Energy Association (GDEA) and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (Poly U) on July 16.
The seminar, with the theme ‘Renewable Energy & Smart City Initiatives: Challenges & Opportunities For Power Supply Industry’, brought together more than 10 distinguished and inspirational speakers from both government, semi-government, and utilities within the Greater Bay. More than 50 distinguished guests from key enterprises of the construction, power and technology field such as the Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI), Companhia de Electricidade de Macau (CEM), CLP and HK Electric attended the seminar.
Ir Alfred Sit, Director of Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, being the keynote speaker of the seminar, emphasized the government’s steadfast commitment and works being done to reduce the carbon footprint of Hong Kong. He also reinforced the facilitating role of EMSD in turning Hong Kong into a digitalized metropolis. Spearheading a wide range of energy efficiency programs, EMSD is responsible for promotion of the use of renewable energy in town.
Following the welcome address given by Mr. Rex Wong, CEO of HEI, Ms. Mu Hui-hua, Secretary-General of Guangdong Energy Association and Prof. Zhou Li-min of PolyU, Ir BK Mak, Executive Director of HEI and Prof. Xu Zhao of PolyU explored with the audience how decarbonization and the enhancement of energy efficiency could be achieved by means such as renewable energy and distributed generation. Echoing on the theme, Mr. Garry Fang, Project Engineer of HEI and Ms. Chen Yu-ling, board member of Guangdong Energy Association also provided real life examples in Hong Kong as well as in the mainland.
Another key topic of the seminar was ‘smart city’, which was inextricably linked with ‘digitalization’. Ir BK Mak and Dr. Wallace Lai enlightened the audience with examples of the use of smart technologies for the betterment of life and environment in Hong Kong and the mainland, such as the adoption of electronic road pricing system, multi-purpose lamp poles, anti-UAV system for the airport and ground penetrating radar to detect underground utilities. These technologies enhanced the effectiveness, precision to traditional work processes and improved security to public utilities.
HEI is in the best position to integrate environmental-friendly solutions into its rich engineering and asset management expertise to contribute to the future of low carbon, resilience and sustainable urban living locally and overseas. Having the opportunity to organize this successful event, HEI is looking forward to working closely with industry partners in the eco-system to deliver services to the renewable and smart venture of the city.
